Calvin and Hobbes is without a doubt the greatest cartoon strip ever (at least in my mind). I recently stumbled upon an article by Robert Krulwich, an NPR Science blogger. In the article Krulwich discussed cartoonists Dan and Tom Heyerman. The two cartoonists are famous for their web cartoon “Pants are Overrated.” Last October they did something incredible in my opinion.  They decided to update Watterson’s “Calvin and Hobbes” strip, by imagining Calvin as a grown-up, 26 years after his being six. That would make him 32, And in their imaginations, he’s married the girl up the block, Susie Derkins, and they now have a little girl. Her name is Bacon.

We All Miss Calvin

They only did two strips, called “Hobbes and Bacon” (see my earlier blog post),which went instantly viral. Sure, some people screamed, “How dare you!” but many more just sighed, “Oh, my…oh yes…” We all miss Calvin. And like bedtime chocolates on your hotel pillow, how could we not gobble up these two little sweets, wonderfully called “Bacon.”

I loved these two strips. I always have trouble letting go of things. Be it people or characters in films and novels that I learn to truly love. Calvin is one of those characters and this interpretation is just great.
